Traffic Calming in Chicago
The Chicago Department of Transportation’s Traffic Calming Program is designed to make residential streets safer for drivers, pedestrians and bicyclists. The program uses several roadway engineering tools to “calm” vehicular traffic by making it slow down and move more safely.
Among the tools:
- Traffic circles
- Cul-de-sacs
- Street speed humps
- Alley speed humps
- Curb bumpouts
